Bright and early Sunday morning, Brian and Candy headed to Phoenix for the start of the Challenge. For Candy, it was a one-way trip. She will be flying home after the start on the 5th.
Brian reports from the road...
They made good time on their way out west. Travelling with another rider, Curt Belcher, from Kentucky, Brian and Candy rode about 1000 miles a day. They made it to Albuquerque, NM on Tuesday morning in just two and one half days. Wednesday morning was spent at Thunderbird Harley (in Albuquerque) for planned service and a new set of tires. Then they forged on to Mesa, the official start of the Challenge, arriving later that day.
Brian and the bike have been through registration and check in and are officially ready to go! Thursday was spent taking care of last minute details, resting and replenishing fluids (of course!).
PS: No word on how Candy managed the miles... does this earn her an "Iron Butt" of her own?
